Slack features and Winter’23 updates

In this post, we're going to talk about the top features which are useful in daily setup and also as coming as part of the latest Winter’23 release on Salesforce for Slack integration, particularly for Admins. Let’s deep dive into them one by one.

I’m still exploring more new features daily and will keep on updating this post anytime I find any new features. 🤟

Create Custom notifications for Slack with the notification builder 💬

  • Salesforce is bringing to the table the new notification builder for the Salesforce for Slack integration admins.
Setup > Notification Builder
  • In addition to custom desktop and mobile notifications, you can create custom notifications for Slack: Setup > Notification Builder > Custom Notification > Create New > Select ‘Slack’ and do the further setup.

  • You can also clone some standard notifications enabled for Slack into a new custom Slack notification: Setup > Notification Builder >Notification Delivery Settings > Select any notification Type which has Slack = ticked and select Clone
  • Customize the content on the clone record as you want per business need.

Salesforce Flow for Slack features 🌼

Includes Slack actions in your flows.⚡

Managing users and conversations in Slack with Invocable actions:

  • New Invocable Actions are being added to Slack conversation from Flows.
  • Main Invocable Actions are: Create or Archive a Slack Channel, Invite users to the Slack channel, Send, Edit, Pin, or Unpin a Slack Message, and get information about a Slack channel.
  • New ‘Slack Actions’ — Join a Slack Channel Added to be Used in Flows & Probably APIs too.

💡 Possible Business scenario: Create a Slack channel automatically from the Salesforce Flow (Record-Trigger Flow On Account Creation) and in the same flow, Join the newly created Slack channel. This was missing earlier and users in Slack had to go and browser-channel and manually join the same. The only Action available was: Invite users to Slack Channel.

This is going to be really helpful ⚡🎉

  • Moreover, see the above diagram: you now have the power to Search and Add all available Elements/ Sub Flows/ Actions, etc within the same window, instead of launching each section separately. ⚡🌩️
  • All Invocable Actions are available for both Lightning and Classic.🌩️
  • Most of these features are still in beta!🌩️
  • New Slack record layout available for objects. You must enable Slack before you can see it under Object Manager. Depends on which objects you enable and map for Slack integration.

  • Now you can Subscribe to Lightning Reports and Dashboards Directly in Slack (in the CRM Analytics for Slack app)
    You can subscribe to up to 7 reports or dashboards in Slack.

  • How: On a Lightning report or dashboard listing in the CRM Analytics for Slack app, click to open the actions menu and select View Details.
  • In the Details window, click Subscribe. In the Create Subscription window, you can select the days, times, and recipients for the subscription.

  • Though below features related specifically to Flows, since we have very intense usage of Flows in Slack, I recommend this feature also, a simple but admin-friendly feature if you want to create a New Flow, directly from the Setup home page.

Salesforce Apps for Slack 🎉 ⚡

Now Salesforce has made Sales Cloud for Slack/ Service Cloud for Slack as GA and many other apps support now.

  • Sales Cloud for Slack (Stay on top of your sales, directly from Slack.)
  • Service Cloud for Slack (Swarm^ on customer issues, directly from Slack.)
  • CRM Analytics for Slack (Bring data to every conversation with the CRM Analytics for Slack app.)
  • Financial Services Cloud for Slack (Access key Financial Services Cloud features while continuing to collaborate with teams on Slack.)
  • Salesforce for Slack App (Simplify authentication across Salesforce for Slack apps.)
  • Trailhead Slack App (Search, favorite, and share Trailhead, Trailblazer Community, and Sales Enablement (myTrailhead) content directly in Slack.)

Case Swarming — this terms is usually used in Service cloud where multiple experts from different teams collaborate on the same case, to resolve the case faster. Service Cloud for Slack app is must to use this feature.
